“The work that our chapter of Engineers Without Borders does makes it possible for children to have access to an education, for women to empower themselves, and for communities to strengthen themselves.” — Shreya Gupta '20
“Our goal in Panama is to equip the community of Isla Popa II with a solar array system so that they can safely use their church and school.” — Louis Catalano '20
Our chapter of Engineers Without Borders was established approximately eight years ago. Since then, we have tackled three international projects, and one local project, and we have been able to provide sustainable, clean water to the community of Bocas del Toro, Panama. Since closing out that project approximately two years ago, we have tackled two more international projects, one in Nicaragua, and another in Panama, where we noticed the most need. Our Nicaragua project is a water distribution project – we are trying to create a sustainable system which will circulate clean water to a community of approximately 1200 persons, located in a rural, mountainous region of Nicaragua. Our current Panama project is aimed at bringing a sustainable source of energy to community members of Bocas del Toro, Panama, so that children, and community members, are able to safely use their church and school.
Gifts allow us to purchase all the necessary supplies for our project, including all the necessary equipment to assess the scope of projects as well as implement projects. Gifts go directly to purchase equipment used for travel, in order to create better living conditions for international community members. For community members like Rafaela de Jesus Gonzalez, pictured above, gifts allow them to gain access to fulfill basic human needs, such as that of clean drinking water. Through gifts, EWB-RPI can continue its work, which allows communities, and their members, to grow.
Support directly enables the Rensselaer Chapter of EWB to purchase necessary supplies and travel arrangements to make our international project possible. Donor support is our main source of funding for international projects. Each and every gift is so important to each project, and allows us to keep moving forward with our communities.
