"As the widow of an RPI alum, I know the value, prestige, and rigor of an RPI education as well as the demands on RPI students. The accomplishments and commitment of the members of the RPI Destination Imagination Club, in this context, are simply remarkable. RPI's Destination Imagination Club has become an integral part of our NY program. Besides presenting an amazing challenge solution themselves, they also support DI kids throughout New York by serving as appraisers and tournament officials. They serve as exemplars for younger teams, and their commitment as volunteers stirs others to step up and be a part of our great program. Because of them, more students – of all ages – have the opportunity to develop great leadership, problem solving, and critical thinking skills that will serve them throughout their entire lives." — Sue Brailey, Affiliate Director, NYDI
In 2016, RPI DI came in first place at Global Finals in the Fine Arts challenge. Thousands of students, parents, and educators from around the world saw the team’s performance and win at the closing ceremonies. By supporting this project, you help our team strengthen RPI’s global image as a school of technical and creative innovators. Students in the club have even been personally influenced to attend RPI because of the existence of this program on campus. In addition to attending Global Finals, our team members volunteer at the NY DI Affiliate Tournament each year. As the only university team in the state, our presence and involvement in the program sets a great example to the younger students who learn that it’s cool to think out of the box.
Your support will help a team of RPI students travel to Knoxville, TN to compete against other university teams from around the world. This project covers travel costs, lodging, meals, and team registration for the four-day event.
In order for our club to attend Global Finals, it takes an enormous investment of time and energy throughout the year. We currently only have the resources to attend Global Finals every other year, fundraising for two entire school years to work up to it. With your help, we could compete more regularly, and dedicate more of our time to creating the best possible solution to represent RPI at the tournament.
The Destination Imagination Global Finals is a creative solving competition in which STEM methodologies are combined with the arts to create a performance before a live audience. Teams have eight months in which to prepare their solutions, which includes creation of a script, technical elements, scenery, and props, after which the solution is presented at the Regional, State and Global Tournaments. As the only university-level team in the state, we are automatically invited to compete at Global Finals.
