Thank you to everyone who made a gift to this project! While this round of weR Gold closed June 30, you may still support students with your gift by visiting the Rensselaer Giving website.
As Nelson Mandela wisely said, 'Health cannot be a question of income; it is a fundamental human right.' Let us unite to make this right a reality for the refugees in Honduras.
Why Support Us
RPI Global Medical Brigades is our school’s chapter of Global Brigades, the largest student-led organization to improve global health and sustainable development. Each year, we send compassionate RPI student volunteers on clinical volunteering opportunities in underserved communities. This year, plan to support local clinics and nonprofits, such as the Capital City Rescue Mission, monetarily and through our volunteer work. Next year, we have the opportunity to send a team to Honduras to help provide medical care to rural populations.
This year, we plan on supporting local clinics, such as the Capital City Rescue mission. For next year, we also have the opportunity to send a team to Honduras to help provide medical care to set up long term sustainable health care centers in rural areas. Donations or gifts (in the form of medicines and healthcare supplies) support the costs of essential medical supplies for local clinics, our own medical brigades, transportation and living expenses of students dedicating their time to provide support.
We need to raise $10,000 in order to purchase essential medical supplies for the brigade, such as antibiotics and pain relievers, cover transportation costs, and provide support to the medical professionals who guide us during the journey.
Beyond our donations to local clinics, we also directly engage with medically underserved communities locally and at a global level. For this year, we plan to set up a pop-up clinic in collaboration with the Capital City Rescue mission in underserved areas in the capital region. In addition to this year’s brigade in the local community, we also plan to save funds for an international trip to set up a rural clinic in Honduras. Our effort is a unique, multifaceted initiative that opens up doors for Rensselaer students. It introduces our members to a world that is beyond their comfort zone, and provides the tools for our members to create a brighter and healthier future for the patients we aid.
By donating, you are contributing to the largest student-led organization to improve global health and sustainable development. Every dollar you contribute can support a diabetic patient for a month, help 2 surgery patients recover, or help 3 children recover from infection.
About Global Medical Brigades
The RPI Chapter of Global Medical Brigades was established in 2010, but has since grown rapidly. Until 2019, we successfully sent multiple teams of students to rural areas of Honduras, Panama, and Nicaragua to provide medical services. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were unable to set up brigades thereafter. This will be our first brigade since 2020, so all the help would be greatly appreciated.
Empowering RPI students for global impact, our mission at RPI Global Medical Brigades is to provide vital health services to underserved communities worldwide. This year, we focus on Greece, offering medical care to refugees and asylum seekers, shaping not only their lives but also the transformative experiences of our dedicated student volunteers. RPI Global Medical Brigades is the only organization on campus that gives students the opportunity to travel abroad and participate first-hand in healthcare and infrastructure development projects in a way that would be impossible in the United States.
