Thank you to everyone who made a gift to this project! While this round of weR Gold closed June 30, you may still support students with your gift by visiting the Rensselaer Giving website.
"The Rensselaer Rocket Society will be competing in IREC—the largest intercollegiate rocketry competition in the world. Our participation will put RPI on the map in high-power rocketry."
The Mission
Rensselaer Rocket Society (RRS) is a club focused around model rocketry and its members compete in multiple high power rocketry competitions.
What You’re Supporting
A donation to our Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC) fund provides funds for RRS to manufacture a competition rocket for the Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition.
In the summer of 2024, RRS will be competing in the Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC), the world’s largest collegiate rocketry competition. IREC is hosted in southern New Mexico where teams from across the world come to compete in one of 6 different competition categories. We plan on competing in the most advanced category which requires the team to build and launch a rocket to 30 thousand feet using student-made rocket propellant. Additionally, we are required to have a 4-kg payload. For our payload, we are developing a coincident scintillator muon detector. This payload will also be entered in the Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) Payload Challenge category of IREC. A successful launch of this payload will make us the first collegiate team to measure muon flux across a near-continuous range of altitudes.
In June 2024, our team of 5-10 students will travel to Truth or Consequences, New Mexico to compete. We will be competing against top-tier colleges and universities from across the world.
We need to raise $13,000 in order to pay for materials, manufacturing, and transportation for our entry in the Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition.
Donating to this project can help contribute to making RPI host the first collegiate team to measure muon flux at such altitudes through funding our entry into the competition.
Who We Are
Rensselaer Rocket Society designs and builds high-powered rockets and their payloads to participate in various high-powered rocketry events and competitions. RRS works to foster the learning and application of aerospace engineering, as well as designing rockets through work on various other projects. RRS strives to increase RPI’s acclaim in high-power rocketry and aerospace circles.
Your support will help RPI students in their aerospace endeavors now and in the future. Our projects provide our members with lucrative opportunities in the aerospace industry, from NASA to government contractors to space startups. We also do community outreach between our NRB event, helping local Scouts, and more.
