“Your donations would help the team perform in various places, enhance the diversity in dance on our campus, and expand our passion for Bollywood fusion dance.” – Aneela Alex
The Mission
Rounak is RPI’s premier Bollywood Fusion Dance Team! We actively participate in various campus performances and competitions. RPI Rounak is a Desi Dance Network (DDN) team that participates in Bollywood competitions in the northeast region. Our goal is to have a platform for RPI students to perform and bring in their cultural identity through dance.
What You're Supporting
The donation supports helping us perform on and off-campus. The costs include traveling to performances, hotels, costumes, etc. The donations are crucial for the team to give their best performance.
We need to raise $2,000 in order to participate in the regional Desi Dance Network (DDN) competitions and off-campus performances.
This year's competition piece is inspired by a feminist Bollywood movie named 'Queen,' which showcases the transition from being a dependent, introvert, and fragile girl next door to a smart, extroverted, and confident woman who is simply beautiful. Queen teaches one of the biggest lessons of our lives: How a bad relationship can stop you from growing.
Our team especially resonates with this story line since we are an all-girl team this year, and the meaning of each dance segment and song has a deeper meaning about the importance of self-worth and independence for a woman. The storyline and mixes were completed during summer. The board is currently teaching choreography for the piece and applying for competition!
We want to exhibit this dance piece on campus and through various competitions, which is only possible through your donations. The display of this beautiful piece pinpoints the importance of independence, the journey of discovering a new self, and starting fresh in life. This would also increase the diversity in art forms on our campus and among other college campuses as we perform in various locations.
