“This project is a major step in helping TeamRPI reach its goals of fostering a friendly community, and making eSports and gaming as accessible as possible.” - Eric Ostrow '24
The Mission
TeamRPI’s goals as a club are to foster a friendly community, and make eSports and gaming as accessible as possible. In order to improve accessibility, the club has to remove barriers. The biggest barrier preventing people from getting into PC gaming is the cost of getting a PC capable of running intensive video games. This issue is one the club struggles with currently, with all of our players currently playing on their personal setups, which might not be the ideal setup for high-level competition. We also struggled with our NRB event, as many of the students who signed up did so under the impression that PCs would be provided, and were then disappointed when we were unable to do so. The project would also give TeamRPI a dedicated club space, which is something it has lacked since its creation. With a dedicated space, the club would be able to hold more in-person events, which would allow the community to come closer together.
What You're Supporting
The TeamRPI eSports and Gaming Lounge will be equipped with mid to high-end PCs; meaning it will be easier for members of the Rensselaer community to get involved in eSports and gaming. It is expected that both TeamRPI, and the eSports and gaming community will grow as a result of this project. All donations go directly toward funding the purchase of the computers and all the necessary accessories including keyboards, mice, mouse pads, headsets, and monitors. Additionally, the project will be an improvement to the Student Union, giving the building more amenities.
