The Rensselyrics

“In creating an EP, we are capturing our current group, musical ability and talent that we can share with the Rensselaer community, our alumni and families, showing all of the hard work we put into our arrangements for all to enjoy. I hope that having this album will make a lasting impact of our group, preserving our music and our memories in the Rensselyrics!” – Katherine Scoullos '23

The Mission

We are a group of students who love to sing and perform, and want to be able to share the talents of our group with the Rensselaer community and beyond! We help to show our rich history at Rensselaer with the arts, and how that relationship is still going strong after so many years.

As a group, we showcase the artistic side of a school often considered to be focused solely on STEM pursuits. An album helps to preserve this moment in history at the school by showcasing the music our students loved during their college years.

We hope that this project will add to the musical and artistic performance community at Rensselaer. It is also a way for our alumni to stay connected with current members in the group and to preserve their musical contributions to our group. As a result of having digital recordings we can more easily distribute our work, exposing the greater community to the Rensselyrics and RPI. Further, new recordings help to preserve this moment in history at the school by showcasing the music our students loved during their college years.

What You're Supporting

An extended play album, EP, is a production of music of showcasing 4-5 songs. For the Rensselyrics, we hope that by creating an EP, we will preserve the talents of the students for many people to enjoy for years to come. As all of our music is self-arranged by group members, we would not only be spotlighting our singers but the creative arrangements that our members have made. The proceeds of the weR Gold fundraiser will be used to hire a music production company for the purpose of recording, mixing, and publishing of an EP for the group. We are currently in the process of deciding what songs to use for the EP and how we want to go about recording them. We are also working to make the performance of these songs the best that they can be to ensure that they better represent the intentions of the people who created them.

There is a lot of talent among the students at RPI. As a group, we provide a place for musically inclined students to express themselves through singing, arranging, and performance. The songs that we sing are all arranged by current members of the group or its alumni. Throughout the semester, we perform these songs at various schools and events in the area, as well as campus events for alumni, and a main semesterly performance. These performances are a way for us to showcase the talent of our group to the people in the community. However, we currently do not have a quality way of capturing the songs and the dynamic of the group. As CDs are outdated, we actively publish our music on streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube and others to reach the Rensselaer community and beyond. We hope that by being able to create this EP we will preserve the talents of the students at this school and better enrich the performing arts at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. This is the link to our Spotify which contains music that has been professionally recorded, mixed, and mastered.

Who We Are

The Rensselyrics are a co-ed a cappella group that sings mainly contemporary music arranged by its members. The 'Lyrics are the oldest a cappella group at Rensselaer, having been born from the original RPI Glee Club (the oldest a cappella group in the country) in 1991. We now perform at many of Rensselaer's campus events and around the area, as well as hosting our own invitational each semester, to which other college groups are also invited to perform.
