Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition 2022

“This year, the Rensselaer Rocket Society finally got accepted to compete in IREC. It is a huge milestone for our club. IREC is the world’s largest collegiate rocketry competition with the toughest competition we’ve ever see. We can’t wait to get out there and prove what we’ve got—and it’ll be a lot easier to get to New Mexico with your support.”

The Mission

Rensselaer Rocket Society tackles a variety of engineering challenges over the course of an academic year. In 2022, the Rensselaer Rocket Society (RRS) will be competing in the Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC), the world’s largest intercollegiate rocketry competition. A donation to RRS will support us in our endeavor to design and construct a sounding rocket to launch to an altitude of about 10,000 feet. We will also be building a payload for the rocket—a coincident scintillator muon detector—to measure muon flux at different altitudes. Our detector will be entered in the Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) Payload Challenge. A successful launch of this payload will make us the first collegiate team to measure muon flux across a near-continuous range of altitudes.

What You're Supporting

Your donation goes toward Rensselaer Rocket Society's many projects, especially the Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC). By competing in IREC, RRS will help build Rensselaer’s reputation in the high-powered rocketry and aerospace communities. We aim to aid RPI’s aeronautical and mechanical engineering students especially in their education and professional endeavors by providing them with a space to apply knowledge. In addition, our club aims to make the aerospace sector accessible to non-aeronautical engineering students and foster the practical application of classroom learning for school pride, team communication, and individual enrichment. Our members are always coming up with new ideas to push the boundaries of high-power rocketry, and donations allow us to aim higher and higher for our projects—literally. Funding from weR Gold will be used for rocket parts (airframe, motors, electronics material for payload).

Who We Are

Rensselaer Rocket Society designs and builds high-powered rockets and their payloads to participate in various high-powered rocketry events and competitions. RRS works to foster the learning and application of aerospace engineering, as well as designing rockets through work on various other projects. RRS strives to increase RPI’s acclaim in high-power rocketry and aerospace circles. Your support will help RPI students in their aerospace endeavors now and in the future. Our projects provide our members with lucrative opportunities in the aerospace industry, from NASA to government contractors to space startups. We also do community outreach between our NRB event, helping local Scouts, and more.
