The Mission
RPI Crew is a student-run Rensselaer Union organization on campus. Our mission statement: The purpose of the club shall be to promote the sport of rowing through competition and good sportsmanship. The club shall seek to impress upon the membership the importance of teamwork, dedication, and discipline, as well as the positive social characteristics of rowing.
Through practice, events, and competitions the RPI Crew Club is organizing, we can improve the experience of many people within the greater Rensselaer community. First, for our team members, we take pride in competing for the betterment of RPI’s reputation. For our alumni, we provide a sustained community on campus. And for the rest of the student body, activities enable us to compete and bring students, fans, coaches, and participants together to socialize and engage in friendly competition.
The donation will help the RPI Crew Club to maintain the boats in good shape. We row five days a week, so our rowing machines are used a lot. Some equipment needs to be maintained. Some equipment breaks. We attempt to salvage whatever we can but sometimes we need to replace broken equipment. Having well-maintained equipment increases our safety, which is always a priority. Also, we need to maintain the ship motor for the coach's safety. With the safety of the coach comes the safety of our team members on the water. Besides funding for the maintenance of boats, our trailers for transporting the boats also need to be maintained.
All the activities we are having can help the students to build their teamwork, leadership, and good balance from study. It’s not just out of classroom support. When RPI Crew Club members return to the classroom, they are more motivated to excel and strong in collaboration with other students. We can contribute to campus life as leaders with more enriched experiences through the support of donors.
Although the RPI Crew club is not affiliated with the NCAA, we strive to become more and more competitive, representing Rensselaer as we race other schools at regattas. Without the same facilities and equipment as other NCAA teams, the RPI Crew team is at a disadvantage. New equipment will better suit our rowers and aid us as we train and condition for these events.
