“Providing school spirit and excitement at athletics events is the RPI Pep Band’s specialty. Whenever I hear the sound of our roaring percussion section echoing throughout the Houston Field House, I feel the urge to get out of my seat and cheer as loud as I can! With the addition of tonal bass drums, we would be able to provide a new dimension to our music and expand our percussion section.” -- Ian Gross '17, Computer Science, RPI Pep Band Manager
The RPI Pep Band has a longstanding tradition of connecting athletic fans and the student body. From events such as hockey line to games at the Houston Field House, the Pep Band provides school spirit wherever they go! We are proud to stand beside our athletic teams and the Rensselaer community.
A donation supports not only the Pep Band and our ability to create school spirit, but also our fans and athletes who look to us for enthusiasm, motivation and support. Your gift to this project will support the purchasing of four brand new marching bass drums of varying sizes, protective cases, harnesses, and stands. The Pep Band has always been a strong, energetic, and positive presence at many Rensselaer athletics events. These bass drums would increase the musicality of the band and enable us to play louder energetic beats at our various events. Expansion of our percussion section would allow us to diversify our instrumentation and would provide more band members, and potential members, the opportunity to play bass drum throughout sporting events.
Founded in the early 1920s, the RPI Pep Band is a completely student-owned and operated organization operating under the Rensselaer Union in Troy, NY. In simplest terms, we’re a group of people who love to play our instruments and love spreading school spirit at football, men’s hockey, and women’s hockey games, both home and – on occasion – away.
