"Environmental issues and sustainability are important to many students and faculty of RPI. People beyond and at RPI are fighting for a more sustainable world. Installing water bottle filling stations at RPI would promote sustainability among students by giving them a place to refill reusable water containers. This reduces the use of plastic disposable bottles among the campus community and is a step towards making RPI a sustainable campus and one day the world." – Alex Fox '16, Sustainability Studies, Class of 2016 Senator and FSC member
Donations received will support purchasing and installing water bottle filling stations throughout campus. Our goal is to install filling stations in the Student Union, Mueller Center, and the East Campus Athletic Village. By having filling stations installed throughout campus, more students will be inclined to use reusable water bottles. This will reduce the waste that our campus creates. We hope that this will be the first of many projects that will help make Rensselaer more environmentally friendly.
By supporting this project, you are supporting making Rensselaer and the Student Union a more environmentally friendly place. As one of the top science and engineering schools in the country, we want Rensselaer to be a leader in sustainability as well.
The Facilies and Services Committee (FSC) of the Rensselaer Student Senate’s mission is to enable student input and concerns as they pertain to the campus facilities, food services, transportation services, and safety around RPI’s campus through student driven projects and initiatives. Our previous projects have included picnic table installations, the car sharing initiative, and the Annual Light Walk.
The Vasudha Living & Learning Community is a unique learning experience where students live and take courses with other students who share interests in the Earth, its energy resources, and our natural environment. This unique first-year experience gives students the opportunity to build strong friendships, while developing deeper understanding and insight in a specific area of study. Because we have a close-knit group of faculty members who are affiliated with the program, we also get a chance to know them better. Our instructors are regular members of the Rensselaer faculty who do active research on energy, environment, and/or their relationship to society.
