“RRS has been a transformative, educational, and exciting experience for myself and our members since its inception. This project will allow our members to expand their experience in aerospace, improve our teamwork skills, and better our ability to have a positive impact in the Rensselaer community and beyond.” -Jasper Barnett (RRS President)
Rensselaer Rocket Society tackles a variety of engineering challenges over the course of an academic year. Our first-year members compete in the Battle of the Rockets competition in Culpeper, VA, where collegiate teams from across the United States attempt to successfully launch electronics payloads that perform multiple challenging tasks. At the same time, our upperclassmen have pursued a diverse array of design concepts and challenges over the years, from specialized avionics hardware (such as DABS, to achieve precise altitude control) to competitions like NASA’s Student Launch Initiative. We create a community of collegiate rocketeers and budding professionals that provide each other with mutual support and direction, while also fostering more STEM opportunities at the Institute, and in the community as a whole.
Your donation goes toward Rensselaer Rocket Society's many projects, especially Deployable Airbrake System (DABS). Our members are always coming up with new ideas to push the boundaries of high-power rocketry, and donations allow us to aim higher and higher for our projects—literally. Funding from weR Gold will be used for rocket parts (airframe, motors, electronics material for payload), travel costs associated with competitions, and launch equipment for Boy Scouts rocket events.
Rensselaer Rocket Society designs and builds high-powered rockets and their payloads to participate in various high-powered rocketry events and competitions. RRS works to foster the learning and application of aerospace engineering, as well as designing rockets through work on various other projects. RRS strives to increase RPI’s acclaim in high-power rocketry and aerospace circles. Your support will help RPI students in their aerospace endeavors now and in the future. Our projects provide our members with lucrative opportunities in the aerospace industry, from NASA to government contractors to space startups. We also do community outreach between our NRB event, helping local Scouts, and more.
