Outdoor recreation is an incredibly exciting and rewarding way to get exercise. Outing Club leaders take club members on trips to learn new sports almost every weekend of the semester. These trips provide our club members the opportunity of experiential outdoor education. As all of our trips are student-run, club members can even go on to become student leaders, which teaches students many valuable leadership qualities.
Of all the sports the Outing Club has to offer, whitewater kayaking is one of the more popular. With trips going out in the fall and spring, and bi-weekly pool sessions for students to learn, our kayaks get plenty of use. By donating to the Whitewater Kayaking Initiative, you can help us buy new kayaks so more students will be able to learn and enjoy the sport.
A donation to the Whitewater Kayaking Initiative will not only support the Rensselaer Outing Club, but all the students at the school who have the chance to go on our trips. Introducing students to whitewater kayaking will show them a new sport that they might not have had the chance to try otherwise. Your gift will support replacing some of our older kayaks which cannot be used on rivers. Most of the time, the whitewater kayaking trips and pool sessions are limited by the amount of kayaks the club has. With more kayaks, more students will be able to go on our trips! By donating, more students will have the opportunity to get exposed to the thrilling world of kayaking and other outdoor adventure sports.
As one of the oldest and largest clubs on campus, the Rensselaer Outing Club is a student-run club operating under the Rensselaer Union in Troy, N.Y. Our goal is to provide our club members of all skill levels the opportunity to go on wilderness trips, rent an assortment of gear, and attend affordable wilderness training to further one’s knowledge of the outdoors and outdoor adventure sports.
