On behalf of everyone here at Engineers Without Borders at RPI we are very grateful for your generous contribution.  Every donation we receive allows us to better serve the communities in need and give students the chance to gain invaluable experience by traveling abroad.

Engineers Without Borders: Panama and Nicaragua

“It breaks my heart to see the conditions that the communities we visit are living in, but I am so proud to be surrounded by so many motivated individuals, all whom are working hard to design and implement sustainable solutions to these issues.” -Tyler McCormack '20

The Mission

Donations enable us to travel us to Panama and Nicaragua where we can implement our systems, and allow these communities to meet basic human needs. By contributing to EWB RPI, you’re directly equipping our student chapter to make a difference in both of the communities we support: Sasle, Nicaragua and Isla Popa II, Panama. We are designing a water distribution system in Nicaragua, and a solar panel system in Panama. Your donations allow for us to purchase expensive solar panel materials, plane tickets, and other supplies for implementing our projects.  Your donations also give students the opportunity to travel, give them lifelong experiences, and allow them to bring their knowledge back to the Rensselaer community to share with other students.

What You're Supporting

These activities deliver experience in research, design, planning, logistics, budgeting, professional development, networking, and cross-cultural communication. More importantly, each activity and task presents the opportunity for the multidisciplinary team of students, faculty, and professionals to apply  academic knowledge from engineering and humanities courses, while solving open-ended engineering problems in a global environment.

By supporting the EWB RPI chapter, your entire contribution will go directly to paying for the club’s expenses. Each trip costs upwards of $10,000. With a trip scheduled for this coming January, to implement the first phase of the solar system in Panama, we are actively trying to raise enough funds to travel again in the summer of 2019.  The school is our first priority when it comes to providing power, but the next step is the church to allow for a safe and comfortable worshiping environment.
