“This project will help to connect Rensselaer Graduate Students to potential employers, and also foster scientific creativity by presenting ideas to each other.” -- Nick Thompson, Treasurer
The Graduate Research Symposium is a unique event centered on a full day of professional development and networking for graduate students. While most symposia and conferences charge entrance fees, your donation will allow students to participate at no cost. In addition, your gift will support organizational items for the symposium as well as food for the event. Rensselaer has never sponsored a similar event, and graduate students typically have to fund their own travel and fees for similar events at other universities. The Graduate Research Symposium will be a full-day event so graduate students can attend multiple student talks, networking panels, a poster session, and keynote talk. This will greatly improve student presentation skills and allow for critical feedback from peers before they enter the job market.
By donating to the Graduate Research Symposium, you enhance the professionalism of Rensselaer graduate students and provide them with networking opportunities. Your contribution will directly influence the quality of the graduate program and increase career opportunities for graduate students.
The Graduate Student Council is an organization dedicated to improving the quality of graduate student life at Rensselaer. Traditionally the GSC has organized social events and worked with graduate students to resolve student life issues. In the past year, the GSC identified a need for more professional and networking events. Currently, the GSC is working on the first Graduate Research Symposium at Rensselaer, scheduled for May 14, 2016. For more information, please visit the Graduate Student Council website.
